THE total number of constructions in the province of Guimaras in the second quarter of 2018 slumped by 50 percent due to the sudden decrease in both residential and non-residential projects.
Residential building projects slumped by 42.11 percent from a total number of 19 constructions in the first quarter to 11 in the second quarter.
Likewise, a 52.38 percent slump was noted in non-residential projects and 100 percent in alterations and repairs.
The preliminary results of construction statistics from the approved building permits revealed that the number of constructions in the second quarter of 2018 totaled to 21, lower by half compared to the first quarter of 2018 with 42 projects.
Compared to other provinces of Western Visayas region, Guimaras had the least number of constructions, both residential and non-residential types.
Iloilo province registered the highest with 1,333 projects, 86.87 percent of which were residential and 13.13 percent were non-residential.
Negros Occidental and Antique occupied the 2nd and 3rd spots, respectively, with 960 and 204 total constructions.
In terms of floor area, Iloilo dominated the highest total floor area of constructions in the second quarter of 2018 with 215,436 square meters (sq. m.), accounting for 45.93 percent of the regional total with an estimated value of P2.01 billion.
Negros Occidental came second with 156,842 sq. m. assessed at P1.95 billion.
Following at a distant were the provinces of Antique and Capiz with P302.77 million and P254.36 million, respectively, worth of projects.
Guimaras had the least floor area with an estimated value of P27.39 million, accounting for 0.56 percent of the total construction value in the region.
The total value of constructions in the province during the second quarter of 2018 estimated at P27.39 million is lower by 63.33 compared to P74.69 million in the first quarter of the same year.
Also, residential constructions valued at P11.78 million posted 41.85 percent decrease from P20.08 million in the first quarter.
The construction value of non-residential buildings amounting to P14.60 million is 72.90 percent lower against P53.90 million in the first quarter.
Meanwhile, the total average cost per square meter of P6,804.72 during the second quarter of 2018 is lower by 1.80 percent against the previous quarter’s P6, 966.23.
Average cost per square meter of residential constructions for the second quarter was estimated at P8,418.87, higher by 26.15 percent against P6,673.65 in the first quarter.
Also, the average cost of non-residential construction was P5,965.69, which is 14.64 percent lower compared to P6,988.85 in the first quarter of 2018.
