Christmas came early to the towns of San Joaquin, Concepcion, and Igbaras as AAMBIS-OWA Party-list Representative and Deputy Speaker Sharon Garin, along with Vice Governor Christine “Tingting” Garin of Iloilo, continued the series of turnovers of ambulance units last December 13, 14, and 19, 2018.
The ceremonial turnover of one (1) ambulance unit per town is part of the ongoing project of AAMBIS-OWA to address the widespread lack of proper medical facilities in the rural towns of Visayas.
According to the 2018 Philippine Health System Review of the World Health Organization, Visayas has the lowest number of health facilities among the island groups in the Philippines. Local health workers are faced with the challenge of handling complex traumas and emergencies because of the limited and outmoded tools in Regional Health Units (RHU) and Barangay Health Centres (BHC).
To address the perennial problem, AAMBIS-OWA Party-list, in partnership with the Office of the Vice Governor, tapped several Municipal Health Offices in the Province of Iloilo as recipients of brand new and fully-equipped ambulance units.
Each unit features one (1) portable suction machine, one (1) automatic external defibrillator (AED), one (1) nebulizer, and one (1) digital sphygmomanometer for blood pressure. Two (2) mobile phones are also included—one for the ambulance and one to be stationed at a nearby hospital.
Upon receiving the new units, the municipal health offices of San Joaquin, Concepcion, and Igbaras hope to provide better services to a total of 127,055 residents, including those in far-flung barangays.
“On behalf of AAMBIS-OWA Party-list, it is our only hope to provide our constituents with the best health services available. May these units serve you well your time of need,” Deputy Speaker Garin said.
Vice Governor Garin also thanked the respective local government units (LGUs) for their participation and their unceasing support to the medical initiatives of AAMBIS-OWA Party-list.
“We are thankful for the service you are giving to this province. These initiatives only aim to deliver what our constituents deserve no less. May we count on your support as we continue to provide better healthcare facilities to the towns of Iloilo,” Vice Governor Garin continued.
For 2018, AAMBIS-OWA Party-list, in partnership the Office of Vice Governor Tinting Garin, has turned over a total of ten (10) ambulance units to various towns in the province of Iloilo, including San Enrique, Dingle, Leon, San Miguel, Calinog, Bingawan, and Alimodian.
