Councilor slams spate of crimes in Bacolod

BACOLOD City – Bacolod Councilor Wilson Gamboa Jr. condemned the ambush on Councilor Ricardo Tan and his wife and other crimes committed against lawyer Rafael Atutubo and Barangay Captain Nelson Ligaya, Jr.

In a resolution approved on Dec 19, 2018, Gamboa urged Mayor Evelio Leonardia to convene the Peace and Order Council to formulate measures to deter heinous high crimes in happening in Bacolod City now.

The resolution is in reaction to the strafing of Councilor Ricardo Tan and his wife last Dec 14, 2018 by unidentified persons while on their way back to Bacolod City from a resort in Talisay City.

The resolution also cited heinous crimes against personalities like lawyer Rafael Atutubo and Punong Barangay Nelson Ligaya which remained unresolved.

According to reports submitted by the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) to the Bacolod Sangguniang Panlungsod on December 17, 2018, they are still “in limbo” and could not establish motives and identities of the suspects in the attacks on Atutubo and Ligaya.

Gamboa said the recent spate of crimes in the city is “symptomatic of a breakdown in law enforcement and these unresolved crimes has caused fear in the community and may affect the way of life in this highly urbanized city.”

He also stressed that a special task force should be formed and that a reward system should be implemented for the early resolution of these crimes.
