BACOLOD City – Chief Supt. John Bulalacao, Police Regional Office (PRO-6) director, said on Dec 23, 2018 that investigators already tagged a person of interest in the ambush of a lady lawyer and her companion on Dec 21. in Silay City, Negros Occidental.
Atty. Erfe del Castillo, 44, and her driver-companion Efren Palmares were ambushed at around 11 p.m. Friday at the Bacolod-Silay Airport Access Road.
Palmares died in a private hospital Saturday morning while Del Castillo is in stable condition despite suffering from head and shoulder injuries .
“We condemn the shooting of Atty. Erfe Del Castillo and Mr. Efren Palmares in Negros Occidental. Negros Occidental PPO (Police Provincial Office) is already conducting an investigation on this incident in order to identify and arrest the suspects,” Bulalacao said.
“I will not allow lawlessness in Western Visayas so I assure the victims that we will ensure that those responsible in this crime will be arrested in the soonest time.”
Superintendent Boots Aseo, Talisay police chief, said del Castillo has yet to issue a statement to investigators.
Palmares had just picked up Del Castillo from Bacolod-Silay airport when the ambush happened.
Del Castillo is the lawyer of Francis Rey Cabuga who is locked in a dispute with his wife over the businesses.
Cabuga is the also the owner of the Safari Resort in Barangay Alangilan, which is located a few meters from Campuestohan Highland resort of Bacolod City Councilor Ricardo Tan.
Safari Resort remains unfinished after the barangay council refused to issue a permit.
Tan and his wife Nita were also ambushed last Dec 14 at Barangay Alangilan. They survived after “playing dead.”
